For the launch of the new Nike ISPA shoe, we employed various computer vision and machine learning techniques to bring this innovation into augmented reality. The first step was to use photogrammetry (a process by which we create a photo-realistic, textured 3D model of a shoe by taking hundreds of photos and running them through various algorithms), we took the 3D Nike ISPA shoe, optimized it, and then placed it in Augmented Reality using Native AR - allowing users to view the shoe directly from a mobile device (no app needed). We then took the project a step further and inserted it into the new SnapML (machine learning) module inside Snapchat - which allows users the ability to virtually try-on the shoes.
